Watch or Play Cricket

Cricket is a beloved sport in Sri Lanka. The locals including the monks are known for their passion for the game, and it is an essential part of their culture and identity.
In front of Lions Rest hotel in Gurubebila there is a large grassy green on the ocean where the locals play matches. Out the back of Weligama there is a cricket oval and Weligama have a team where they play the neighbouring towns.

We are 45 minutes from Galle where the famous test venue is located. Galle is home to a cricket pitch that can accommodate up to 35,000 people, making it one of the largest cricket grounds in the country. In comparison, the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground in England can only hold 28,000 people.

Despite the popularity of cricket, many surfers in Sri Lanka are equally passionate about their sport. While we haven’t yet met any people who are enthusiastic about both surfing and cricket, we believe that such individuals exist, and we would love to hear from them.

So, if you are one of those surf-cricket fanatics, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We can organise some local matches and let you know where the best surf breaks are.
