Gurubebila Our Local Beach

Quite a sunset over the Indian ocean tonight, the crows disappeared and the fruit bats appeared, not a bad day late out, the surf was dark when I paddled in. Mike @ Lion’s Rest
Guruebella is a quiet village between between Midigama and Weligama. The village has a surf culture / back packer vibe with very few mainstream tourists, just cows, around 70 local families and a cricket team. Guest houses have opened up in recent years so there are plenty of rooms where you can stay away from the busy A2 main road with just the sound of the ocean at night.

Gurubebila Surf Points

There are two local  intermediate, reef surf breaks  Coconut Point and Plantation Point. It’s pretty chilled, friendly out the back, you can surf there from dawn till dusk. There is a great roti cafe that opens early in the morning with deep fried rottie, sooo good.

Our flagship hotel Lion’s Rest opened in December 2013. The eight-room Boutique Hotel faces the village green, leading to a clean sandy beach and Coconuts surf point. There are two large Family Rooms, three Balcony Deluxe rooms, Poolside rooms and one with a private sunset terrace.
