Gecko Aragum Bay, or A-Bay as the locals like to call it, is Surf South Sri Lanka’s first south-east recommended, family friendly, surf camp. The surf season there runs from April to September when the swells are strong, and the winds are off-shore early mornings and calm in the evenings.

A-Bay hosts some world-class surf breaks, and Gecko is very close to Whisky Point, an intermediate shore break that peels right off the rocks. A-bay has an established surfing community; less developed than the south-west with commercial hotels and has a more eco-friendly surf vibe. Yalla Safari Park is just south, so you are living on the edge of the wilderness and the sea.

Rooms & Rates

Room all beach side. Prices are in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) per room per night. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, fans, mosquito nets and private verandas. Possible to add 1 extra bed in most of the rooms for 900 LKR, or free for under 12 years kids. Ask about half board also, from 3175 LKR per person per day with the Gecko breakfast & dinner plan. Wash & fold laundry service. Wi-Fi and a good sprinkling of love as most of the staff have been there from the stat over 12 years ago.

Breakfast is not included although complimentary “bed” tea/coffee may be served to the room in the morning. The reasonably priced restaurant has an excellent selection of home-made, modern European and Sri Lankan dishes, green and superfood juices and an awesome selection of buffalo milk or coconut ices. Gecko have also stared an organic range of food from their vegetable garden. Lovely stuff!

Double Room Beach Cabana – Sleeps 2+1 – 2800 LKR

1 double and 2 single beds, large private balcony, (extra 2 beds for 900rs per bed on the balcony possible weather permitting), this cabana has a very large bathroom with 2 showers, 2 basins and WC.

3 Double Rooms – Sleeps 2+1 – 3800 LKR

Rooms have extra-long (6ft 6in) double beds, full size ceiling fans, dome style mosquito nets, bedside wall lamps and extra pillows.

Apartment – 4+1 people – 6800 LKR

2 double bedrooms, 1 with a king-size double and the other a queen size double (ie good for 2 kids or small people to share!).  This has an open plan living space with big sofas, DVD player and a spacious dining area with a small fridge.
